Wrablers rehearsal notes 29 Sept
Marcus chair
Present: Rob, Juliana, Wendy, Sandy, Louli, Marcus, Robin, Phil, Peter, Irene
Absent: Maxine, Colin
Uptown (warm up) No major screw-ups
It don’t mean a thing
Alto solo 58-66 rather high – drop the octave if easier (Louli has recorded) Bar 90 “aint” – keep it short
Swell on the last “swing”
One for my baby
Bar 25, elongate “eeeeasy” slightly
Bar 42, pause for breath before AND after “Well”
Bar 58, pause for breath before the Tag
If using original score (with two lines per stave), make sure you know whose line is whose (eg bar 60 “for the road” is bass not bari).
Vox vibe
All good
Rhythm life
Needs clear diction, full phrasing, and “sparkle in your eye”.
Key changes are a particular challenge – work on how to get from final note of old key to first note of the next across each change.
Bar 49-56 ladies is tricky – focus on this.
Heartbeat rhythm
Not terrible, now inject dynamics (sudden pianos, crescendos)
Dance (final body percussion sequence)
Kinda made it all the way through – the final section (with vocal interjections after the layering repeats) needs particular focus now. Keep giving it some attention each week (and ideally in between rehearsals)
AOB
Cover for Rob’s absence – agreed to ask Jamie to cover all day rehearsal, not evenings Gig dress – no discussion, have a think for next week
Next rehearsal chair: Max, no specific points to carry over from this week
Addendum: Irene indicated she would like to audition to join Wrablers, so this is being arranged for Tuesday 6 October.
