Minutes 1 September 2026

Louli-as-chair Report

Report from first the Tasting session (not on minutes which go onto the website)
We were joined by 4 Tasters who were given a warm welcome, copies of all songs, name labels and an induction conversation with Max. 3 people came via the leaflets in the Community Centre and were known to each other, the 4th Victoria came via Peter. 1 left in the first half. 2 enthusiastically stayed on and joined in as they could, including with Dance moves and said a friendly goodbye at the end before snacks. We are not sure they will return but they have contact details. Victoria stayed for the duration, sang, watched the moves, stayed for snacks, was very jolly, looks like she liked us and we like her, knows peeps that Wendy and Sandy know. She is a Sop (good voice) and we are very much hoping that she’ll return if not next week then sometime soon and ask to ‘have an opportunity to blend and share her singing’ (alternative less scary way to describe the audition). Fingers crossed.

Next week taster
Do we have anyone down to join us for next week?
I will bring all the Taster copies of songs + Name labels next week. Name labels are already prepared.
Robin has sent a possible extraneous delight for the Gig – please read and let’s discuss in AOB next week.

MINUTES WRABLERS REHEARSAL 1ST SEPT 2026

P: All present except Robin and Juliana + 4 guest for Tasting session 1

Dance

Singing – went fine, no obvious remarks

Dancing – everyone gets Group 1 sequence, easy peasy. Marcus led a few people in Group 2 and we did this with Group 1 and for a few moments it really was happening! Needs lots more practice and needs Group 3. Suggest next week 2 people attempt to have a go at Group 3. Anyone want to volunteer?

Fum fum fum

  • First verse – make the final Fum longer – as in fum- fum – fuuuum
  • First verse – suddenly go quiet with words ‘In a stable mean and lowly’
  • All verses – avoid heavy emphasis at start on words  ‘On Dec’ …. Instead sing towards ‘five and twenty’  (Notes – this is very usual request from Rob to sing all the way through to the end of the line and not make the start heavy)
  • 2nd verse – Men sing more lightly and tunefully on words ‘beneath a star…
  • Men – use staccato for  ‘a song of joy…’

Women’s songs

Sylvie – pretty much in place. However Louli will check and send DEFINITIVE FINAL LYRIC SHEET – with the order of verses and lyrics.

Vox – no time for this please prepare for next week

Men’s songs – I Got Rythym – how did it go

Java Jive

Beautiful rendition. Rob suggest we sing this slowly and seductively with swoop no less! Eg exaggerate Soy beans …. Cabbage and greens

As this song is more or less sorted suggest next week we give it just 10 minutes and use the time on songs that are more challenging like  ….

Take Five

A good first outing which we sang slowly. A real tongue twister too. No remarks from Rob especially but just needs lots of practice and hitting the right notes!

AOB

Rep Gang:

  • All current members bar Robin wish to continue. Max has volunteered to join. New Gang team are Wendy, Peter, Juliana, Max and Rob
  • Theme for Summer Gig – Rep Gang to advice and to invite submissions for song ideas

Sat Dec 5th Singing Opportunity – Our Yard at Clitterhouse Farm https://www.ouryard.org/  are raising funds to repair the roof. They’ve asked whether we might take part in a fundraising on Dec 5th along with their in-house choir. Deets to follow. We need to confirm within the next 2 weeks. Please look at your diaries. We would sing songs from our Nov 28 gig, so should be no sweat.
