Warm-up Song – Heartbeat Rhythm
Ran it without clapping, awaiting piano accompaniment.
More practice needed on the “sforzando piano” dynamic at bar 44 (accented f followed by immediate p).
Africa
Coming together but CODA needs much more work.
We worked on bars 104-107 (130-133) – melody and rhythm were problematic.
We didn’t touch 108-115 (134-141 ) which are similarly hard – intensive homework for everyone.
We didn’t reach the rest of the CODA but it’s a reprise of earlier sections.
Men / Women songs
I Got Rhythm – progress made on bars 25 to end but more work needed on syncopation from 61ff.
Women’s songs – sounded lovely.
Dance! Moves
Intermittent debate about who does what. It seemed to be resolved to be something like:
Bars 34-37:
ALL do Group 1 routine
Bars 38-42:
Group 1 (PS, SC, LS) do Group 1 routine x 3
Group 2 (MR, JB, RM, PV) do Group 2 routine x 3
Group 3 (WT) do Group 2 routine once then Group 3 x 2
Bars 43-48:
ALL do Group 2 routine
Bars 49-50:
ALL Sing – Dance to the rhythm, the rhythm of your own drum
Bar 51:
ALL – stomp R foot, hold knuckles together at chest level, Shout “HOO!”
Uptown Funk
Basses may have missed a beat around bars 70-74 and 102-106. Must try harder.
More rhythmic precision needed on bars 116, 124 and 128
Route 66
Pay extra attention to written rhythm, especially at 31-32 (City looks migh–ty pre-tty)
Rhythm of Life
Ensure each part notices entries of other parts and adjusts volume accordingly.
Listen to Swingle Singers for ideas on Doo-bi doo-bi …
More work needed bars 151 to end..
White Winter Hymnal
Quite good but make more of vowels than consonants.
