In no particular order, from lots of different people:
We looked good – grabbed the audience’s attention and kept it there
We were really together/disciplined
-
The set was nicely varied
-
Favourite songs were: Moon River, Parting Glass, Lassie, Blackbird, Come Again, Scarborough Fair
-
We’re very good – now all we need to do is look as though we believe it
-
We’re clearly a team and people take responsibility for different things – (this apparently creates a warm and fuzzy impression)
-
The songs with an obvious conductor were the better ones
-
gorgeous singing and excellent presentation
-
need to work on the counting in as some of it was not the best and it made our entries a little tentative – Sebastian’s conducting the best – problem with having conductors at the side…
-
I had such a lovely evening yesterday, and was entertained and very impressed. Please tell all the Wrabble how much I enjoyed it.
- two comments regarding sound balance of males to females. There needed to either be more male voices, stronger projection or softer singing from females, or all three!!
The shape of the choir, i.e curved meant too many faces and voices were projecting across each other and not to audience.
It is a big ask to perform well known pieces, e.g. ‘I want to be free’, as people will automatically make a comparitive judgement of the original. So…. the gaps in the phrases made it seem too slow and lost its dynamic flow, but enjoyed it nevertheless. A brave choice.
Really liked the idea of various people in the choir ‘taking the lead’ to conduct.
-
The positive conducting was noted as benefitting the singing.
-
Thought the variety of material was great.
-
Several people said it was obvious a lot of rehearsing had taken place.
- Several people asked how we selected the pieces. I said democratically.
-
“Slick” “Professional” “you’ve put a lot of work into this and it shows”
-
Great once we got going. Shaky entrances
-
There were lots of positive comments about us singing together well, and being able to hear the individual parts better than the wall of sound that is a huge choir. In other words Wrablers is a nice size.
-
We perhaps should stand in two rows, rather than in one long line.
-
Presentation – people don’t realise how they look to the audience – we were looking in different directions, in the middle distance, or have eyes shut, etc. We should video ourselves and learn.
Our tempo, sense of rhythm not great, but generally better than it was in Songlines.
-
Set list good, but maybe needed a couple more numbers with ‘ooomph’.
-
Generally really good and people impressed that we had learnt all the words and overall sound was good
Iqude was a cracker and a good place to start with.
-
Deportment – we need to look carefully at how we hold ourselves as the impression was wanting not to be there (not everyone). Also comments about where people look – eye closing was commented on.
-
If we are going to sing very well known songs like I want to Break Free – it’s got to be extremely good otherwise it’s deadly!
- Need to warm up and look less nervous.
-
Choice of I want to Break Free for encore not good. (I agree as Amanda was not in it and it’s too tight a song – final song needs to be lighter and happier).
-
Song of the evening – went to Come Again. Mercedes was divine.
Learning to start singing from one start note or a chord rather playing the full range.
-
Staggered breathing so we can stretch the line in songs like Moon River.
Not being so reliant on the conductor but only using them to start us off.
Looking out to the audience more – some of us were turned inwards looking at the conductor – away from the audience.
-
Need more wellie from the men – lacking a real base, so men sound weak in comparison to strong women’s voices.
-
Our bow at the end was a bit ragged.
-
liked the pop songs, and Corbies
-
liked the Madrigals
you must have put a lot of work in on the timing and phrasing
Feedback on particular songs:
-
Do Right – hasn’t got enough ‘swing’ – too sweet
Blackbird – our best song – really suits our voices
-
I Want to Break Free – really gutsy of us to give it a go. Without the Brian May guitar riff in the pauses it seemed a bit stilted. We’re good enough to relax a bit now and do it more ‘organically’.
-
Moon River was “not good”
-
Come Again – “best thing I’ve heard in years”
