So, we were a small group!
We did a round of the Ha Hee Ho Ha game as warmup and we’re getting better!
We sang Koloi Ya Elijah as a blending/timing exercise. A fine example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Just like Wrablers. 🙂
Bad Moon Rising – Matt led. Pretty good for a first outing. The changa chang dang dang rhythm section have got it!
Oh Willie’s Rare – Wendy led. This hauntingly beautiful song was well remembered, and improved upon since its fallow period
Mercedes Benz – Juliana led. Song now holds together, and sounds better when backing is sensitive. DD helped sort out timing at the end of the song.
AOB
1. JB has made a display book of all Wrablers Gigs since the first in Nov 2011, containing flyers, Set lists, start notes, etc. Shows how far we’ve come, and is an easy way to peruse our back catalogue for material to reprise. Will bring to next rehearsals for others to see.
2. JB suggested we start the process of arranging summer gig & rehearsals now, recalling what a pain in the a*** it was last year. JB to set up some doodles, taking into account Songlines dates. Folks were in favour of a Saturday event, rather than a Tuesday. JB suggested Sat 11 July as a starting point.
3. Matt was duly nagged (er ‘offered support) re Schedule. He had made a start and realised he has to produce it before going skiing on Friday. Yes please, Matt. DD raised the question of when we should aim to be off book with learning songs. Current stated aim is on the second airing, which we don’t adhere to. Matt thought to include such targets in the Schedule. [JB suggests, whilst writing this up, that ‘as soon as possible’ could be the guideline. Also, no need to wait for the Schedule to start learning songs that are on the site with parts allocated. Go for it.]
Songs for next time 17 Feb:
Mercedes Benz
Bad Moon Rising
Chatanooga Choo Choo
Goodnight Sweetheart
Janette in the chair.
We left the building in good time and went to the pub via Waitrose. Yum yum glug glug zzzz.
