Warbling Notes from 14 September 2011
Attendees:
Wendy (WT), Kathleen (KM), Janette (JL), Sarah (SS), Uli (UW)
Sebastian (SE), Matt (MM), Amanda (AL), Louli (LS), Mercedes (MS)
Apologies:
Juliana (JB), Robin (RS), Simon (SA)
Much improvement on the last rehearsal, but still some things to work on. Lots of people were tired (so BIG thanks for coming along despite this), but remarkably we did well in any case.
We sang three songs:
Do Right
We were short of tunes so WT sang tune. Tunes really need to concentrate on coming in together on “why don’tcha do right” and “like some other men do” – eye contact at this point, ladies, and really practise this along with your recordings before next Tuesday.
Janette is counting us in with a 1234, 123, and clicking (if she doesn’t seize up before then). In typical inspired fashion, Matt will also chink his money.
The chaps will sing verse three (If you had prepared etc) as it sounds, looks funny if they don’t.
The order is
Verse 1
Verse 2
Doo be doos
Verse 3
Verse 4
Three “get out of here”s at the end.
Blackbird
Four rounds of oos then in. Need to watch the timing of “into the light of a dark black sky”. //IMPORTANT// Hold the note of “fly” for three beats then straight in on the fourth.
Reminder re words : – it’s BROKEN WINGS / LEARN TO FLY then SUNKEN EYES / LEARN TO SEE
Summertime
This was sounding the best of all, I think we agreed. Not a lot to say on it other than keep practising.
Iqude
This is the one we’re keeping up our sleeve in case one of the above doesn’t work out. We were a bit sloppy on coming in on the I of Iqude but agreed that the sopranos would take a deep breath in as a signal for other parts to get ready.
Agenda for next time
• NO SONG SHEETS ALLOWED, SO DON’T BRING THEM
• Run through whole gig with running order Iqude (warm up), Blackbird, Do Right, Summertime.
• Getting the start notes and holding the chord
• Staging
• If there’s time, run through of I Want to Break Free (to keep fresh) and of The Parting Glass
